Potatoes, Parks, and Trees

Recently I've been hungry, for fall comfort, I woke up a few days ago with the pleasure of spicy potatoes and yogurt. Later that day I was inspired to go out and explore my new community. I was surprised to find I was most enthusiastic about the infinite amount trees that engulf everything here. If I've learned anything while living in Oregon, its that trees have more knowledge in every little limb than we do in our entire body.

Fall colors, are everywhere! There's nothing better than a warm home with a handwritten letter to come home to on such a cold day.

Sunset from Multnomah Village. Let the brilliant light widen your eyes with wonder.

I'm still trying to identify this tree, but they are everywhere! I know it is something along the lines of a Douglasfir, but the needles look different, so I'm honestly not positive. I'm learning so much about trees just trying to identify this one, its quite fascinating. I am now aware that whatever this tree may be it is part of the Pinaceae Family. Hopefully I'll be able to get back to all of you with my new found tree knowledge soon!

The last photograph is of Gabriel Park just up the street from our home. When Rachel and I arrived in Multnomah Village this was one of the first places we came across. Its much bigger than it looks; with trails that lead through the forest, past a dog park, a garden, and over a bridge into another soccer field. Rather impressive for just stumbling upon it.

More to come soon!

A Walk in the Woods

I missed the ocean.
So this saturday we made our way to the coast. The drive was beautiful, with reflecting pools and trees lining the road.
Our drive took us around Cape Meares and up towards the forest. Our walk was shrouded in mist with the occasional giant tree breaking through the fog and the sound of the hidden ocean below us.
The forest floor was wet with dew, full of ferns and a hundred different types of mushrooms. The walk put a few things in to perspective for me. We have been working hard at our new jobs, which I am grateful to have, but I am here for photography. I came to this beautiful place to be inspired and I plan on that showing in our work.

Forever Rotating

It seems that life has got me spinning in several directions. Rachel and I have both been working hard at our new jobs here in portland while still consistently working on reaching our goals in photography. As life moves faster and faster I decided to take some time for myself and create some self portraits. I always say, the best way to move past anything is to take some pictures of yourself.

The second image is a photograph of our adorable retro kitchen. I'm completely in love with it.

On another note, we recently added some images on our website. Please take a look!

Oregon Sanctuary

During the past few days Rachel and I have been staying with some family friends in Oregon City. They have the most darling house that words cannot describe. The foxy dog Anna has kept us company when we are lonely, and when we get hungry the garden has given us an abundance of deliciousness. We admire this family so much we only felt it was necessary to photograph their atmosphere.

Village Coffee

What an Adventure we have been having! Our spontaneity got the best of us, leading us all the way up to Portland with very little money, no job (yet!) and no plans for where we could sleep. Luckily it seems that Karma was on our side, within the first week we got our images up in a coffee shop in Multnomah Village (our soon to be home) and we were able to bring Kailey's Epson R2400 in to a friend of a friend's house and make some prints as soon as we got the call. After a quick trip to Goodwill in Beaverton we were able to cheaply frame them and have them hung up. Not bad for having no place to live!

Here are some snap shots I took after we hung them, as you can see Kailey is enjoying a well deserved (and well made) cappuccino in the corner.

If you are in the Portland area I suggest you check out this cute little village and the Village coffee shop. I am very glad that we did.

I am excited for the next few blog posts too! Thanks to Kailey's aunt and Uncle we are staying with a wonderful family in Beautiful Oregon City. Expect some photographs of their property and their chickens!

Until Next time,
Rachel Deehan

Changing Seasons

The days are getting shorter, the air is getting brisk. Fall is here and I love it. Here are a few images I was playing around with last night. I took the photographs almost a year ago now when I was in Keystone Colorado with some family. When you're missing home, sometimes the best thing to do is look at the photographs you've taken there.

New Territory

Exploring new territories is always a thrill. While desperately trying to move up to Portland, I have come to realize how important it is to listen to intuition and the people who surround you. With little money in our pockets our friends family, and strangers have all given us enough pats on our backs to give us the confidence we need. The north west is probably one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. The thick forest and ever changing skies have lifted our spirits even higher. I cannot express how thankful I am. We have made a home here and I can't wait to share it with those I love.

On another note...
Here are a few pictures we took while we were in Yosemite a few weeks ago. The first was a collaborative effort shot by Rachel and edited by myself.

The second is from the Yosemite Valley floor from the mirror lake hike.

Hope this leads you to new places
Yours truly,
Rachel and Kailey
